History

Khoa Sagar Dighi is one of the great ponds of the old Noakhali region. Like many large dighis in Bengal, it was dug in the zamindari era — local tradition links it to the landholding family of Dalal Bazar — to give the surrounding villages water for drinking, bathing and farming. Stories about its origin vary, and locals tell them with relish.

The Dalal Bazar area also keeps remains of the old zamindar houses, now worn by time, which give a sense of how the landed families of the region once lived.

Today the dighi is a peaceful public space: a wide sheet of water, tree-lined banks and a breeze in the afternoon, popular with families from Lakshmipur town.

  • Holidays and Eid afternoons are crowded; weekdays are quieter.
